Sash

In November one of our clients brought in her German Shepherd with what turned out to be a mysterious problem.

During the past few days a wet patch appeared overnight close to where Sash was sleeping - the owner assumed that this was urine, which was unusual for her dog, who had never had so-called 'accidents' before. More baffling was the light film of what seemed to be white powder on top of the wet patch. Perhaps, she thought, some obscure kidney problem.

With this in mind she had brought along a urine sample for us to analyze, along with some of the carefully collected mysterious white powder.

The urine tested normal, and on closer examination, Sash's abdomen seemed fine, and there was no trace of discomfort. In fact, the dog seemed perfectly healthy.

A mystery.

A couple of days later we received a phone call from our acutely embarrassed client who announced that the mystery had been solved - and without the help of any veterinary expert. She had noticed a small piece of paper from the ceiling on the rug and discovered that the immersion heater situated in the cupboard above had developed a leak. The mysterious white powder was plaster! And Sash was innocent of any misdeeds, and, of course, in splendid health.

In this particular case, rather than a vet, it was the plumber who fixed the problem.
