Weight loss is obtained gradually, and while it takes time and effort, the
results are worth it. |

 |
Dogs and cats should be fed a high fibre diet, split into at least 2 meals
a day. Please discuss quantities with your vet or nurse; |
 |
Measure the exact recommended ration, and stick to the regime; |
 |
Try not to feed too many titbits. If you do, make sure they are
low-fat treats and maybe a little of the daily food ration; |
 |
There are a number of toys available to
encourage exercise, so check them out and use them if suitable; |
 |
Do not give in to begging! Instead give dogs
a low calorie treat when they have performed a positive task, such a
fetching a toy. Remember, a good cuddle is often as rewarding as a treat; |
 |
Exercise! Exercise! Exercise! |
It is very important to stick to the new regime,
and to get the whole family involved. One person can spoil all the hard work. A
drastic reduction in food is not usually necessary, and because we do not want
your pet to feel hungry all the time, we can recommend high fibre foods that
will make your pet feel more satisfied. Try to feed low-fat treats such a raw
carrot.
